I want to start a new thread on this dagger that recently landed chez JohnZ. It has a maker mark that I have not only never seen before, but one that has never been mentioned as a maker of Luft2 daggers.

Please let me know your opinions on this.

John,

Good old Gottfried's mark. Can't tell you anything about the dagger parts but that's probably because Gottfried ran a small outfit. Never seen this mark on a Luft2, just a couple of scant Heer daggers. Baz has (had?) one of them. The mark isn't common at all which I'm sure you're aware of. I have the same mark on a fireman's bayonet, only seen 2 of them in 10 years of looking. You're on quite a roll Smile

Billy:

I looked up Gottfried Weyersberg & Sohne in my Fisher Reference Guide and couldn't find this mark at all. I see a GWS mark, a diamond shaped Gottfried Weyersberg mark with flowers in a vase and lots of Baron Solingen marks, but none that look like this one.

They are stated to have made Heer and combat knives as well as Dress Bayonets.

Which mark have you seen on the Heer?

John

When I posted my G Weyersberg army a few years ago a 2nd luft with this mark surfaced at the same time, I'm sure the thread has disappeared but there was at least one before this one unless it's changed hands.

Here's the same mark on a fireman's bayonet. Seen this mark on a bayonet only a handful of times.
