Hope someone will find similar ring from reliable source somewhere in Europe. Good that such rings are made from stainless steel and doesn't disappear in the ground. For me it was and it will be authentic because original source is very reliable for me. Maxim is reseller.

Interesting is that rings were made from silver or other common metal it also was fake for you all?

it has been a fake from day one. Even back a few years ago when we first discussed the ring. We are all polite to one another here and sometimes a 'we'll agree to disagree' does it..

Trigger, The digger boom started right after the breakup of the USSR. My wifes cousins were some of the first in Ukraine. I have been to many a dig. Been to digger shows... When the ground doesn't have anything to give,,,they still have to feed their families.

I've said this many a time,,,being ground dug is NOT a provenance.

There is nothing that makes sense about the ring, material, dedication,... As always,,if those that own them are happy,,,thats all that matters.....

...but not for 5000 bucks. Sorry but imo IF this truly is a fake, then this is more than criminal. Just saying. :-)

True but it only makes sense in terms of the fakers ROI...you're gonna make a fake Anschluss medal or knights cross pick one. It's a no brainer. Met a guy who collects pour la merites at sos last yr/ he said there was only one, "maybe" that was real there last yr. he was going to be bidding on one later that week that was real- the amount? Oh about 5 mint original hrs worth (not kidding).,,and let's not get into high priced fakes in the sshrs. If I was ripped off for the price of my first house I'd completely lose it lol

Engeniy.,,We've met years ago. Your a colleague and I respect your opinion. But for me,,,yes that other stainless ring is a fake..
A ring from a digger is no provence.

These 2 for me are the only 2 patterns with Skulls over SS runes. The one ring [top] I believe pre war. The lower ring right around 40.
Late war you'll see almost all [if not all] period magazines and such no longer even advertised rings , pins, cufflinks etc.

By 44 and especially 45 the German SS soldier had many things to worry about . Most could hardly get ammunition on the Russian front. Near the end food and safety for their families is what they worried about. Manufacturers were bombed out, the local jeweler was long gone.

A late war SS ring,,and in stainless. Seemingly only found in the east,,Sorry the research just doesn't bare this out...

There is one more thing. Technically there is no big problems to make stainless die struck ring for any firm that makes die struck rings and have enough powerful press. BUT, because of high nickel content in stainless steel it ruins tools very fast, very fast they become dull, unsharp. As a manufacturer I wouldn't do that with my tools - I love my tools. At ww2 time these rings didn't cost today's prices. So I hardly can imagine some manufacturer ruining his tools for few rings/orders.

There are less original rings than you think, much less...

Jewelry 316L stainless steel hardness - 140-190 HB (brinell hardness) from "Cutting Data for Turning of Steel" book
Silver - 183 HB from "Native peoples A to Z : a reference guide to native peoples of the western hemisphere" book

So why for stainless steel need powerful press and stamp worn more faster if hardness is plus minus the same?

There are more of metal properties than only hardness - there are density, deformability, malleability, ductileability, fusiblity, tensile strenght etc. All of it will affect die striking properties also.

Stamp is not only tool necessary to make die struck rings - lets start with rolling mills and files, cutters etc.

Reason why tools becomes dull is high nickel and chromium content in stainless.

Try sometime drill or work on lathe stainless steel. Lots of questions will disappear smile
