Hey guys, I have run into this Problem before! I think that one of the purposes of this Forum is Supposedly Education. But People seem very Reluctant to give any information at all. A simple "It's no good!" answer is just not adequate to do any education at all! I understand the reasons, I think. But I am not knowledgeable at all on Headgear and would very much like to learn what it is I am looking for. I am sure I am speaking for a lot of other people out there when I ask for Specific problems with an item. It would seem that there must be some way to balance answers with the need to educate and the need to protect information from people who would use it inappropriately. If a person is using this forum while considering a purchase, when he goes back to the dealer or whatever and states that the item is not right. The very first question he gets will be, "Why? What is wrong with it?" Please, I am not complaining, just trying to encourage what is one of the stated purposes of the Forum! Rg88

The insignia on the fez is bad. The eagle is a 'bigfoot' repro. I've never seen a fez with a red sweatband only tan. I may be wrong on this but I think the logo on the Luft hat is postwar. I don't like the way either look. Sometimes you can't put your finger on it but you just don't get a good feeling on something.

Rail & Raymond, I concur re: red sweatbands, however, black sweatbands in maroon fez's are acceptible also! Here are pics of good eagle and skull insigna and sweatband! Regards, Leipizg

hi rg88..sorry for the curt reply,,,was in a hurry to do something else and didnt have the time at that moment to go into details,,,now since my first posting others have given their opinions and i agree with their observations,,,since every else has commented on the fez,i will give my opinions on the luft general hat: eagle looks too large,,looks more like a tunic eagle,,dont like the sweat shield because it looks like those postwar ones where the material is flimsy, not rigid,,and lastly,,,certainly dont like and i have never seen an ink stamping such as the one you illustrate on any Luft generals hat,,looks totally bogus from here...

The luft "generals" is an artificially aged (and done poorly) currently made fake by Janke. Go to the Wehrmacht Awards headgear forum and review the pinned Janke Characteristics thread for details.

Luft General visor ---- Agree, eagle is too large, also the stitching is crude, looks like an 8 year old did it. Would a general where a hat with such stitching ?? Also agree on the sweat shield. Just doesn't look right. Sorry but you couldn't give me this hat for free.

On the fez, the insignia, sweatband and tassel are all bad. No wonder they are going cheap.

Roger, thanks for letting me know about the black sweatband on the red fez. My green fez has a black one but wasn't sure on the red.

Is Janke still producing products? What was there mission? Making a replica is one thing. Adding stamps under liners, manufacture logos on sweat shields. What was the goal?

I strongly disagree with the comment about red banded fez. I have a vet direct fez that is 100% with a red band. Take a look. Now maybe this fez has a bad skull and eagle but the red band comment is wrong. I hope you did not pass up something that was possibly good. Dan H

In my above post I said "Now maybe this fez has a bad skull and eagle but the red band comment is wrong." I was refuring to the first fez posted and not my fez. Just to clairify.

The fez looks fine and the sweatband is okay as is the red stamped size...replaced fake insgnia...many maroon fez have had the insignia removed and they still turn up regularly sans insignia...as the prices rise steadily for red fez this alteration decreases...maroon fez without insignia sell for no more than $200 to $300 as insignia to restore will be between $600 and $800
