I have always wanted a Samuari Sword, and now I have one. But, I do not know anything about it. Can you folks tell me what this is? Is is an officer's sword, army, marine, navy? Also, it did not have a scabbard with it. How can I get one, and what is the correct one for it?
Thank you very much!
Chief

hi chief
thanks for showing us your japanese posibly chinese family sword not military at all this sword shows me a few things that i dont like to see the handle looks decent for a japanese family handle the tsuba which is the sword guard look newer then the rest of the parts the habaki appears to be a chinese type not japanese not good quality . the blade tip which is the boshi heart of the sword blade looks like chinese fake boshi tip the boshi is not shaped like a japanese tip should be but if you can knock the wooden peg out by the menuki on the handle and remove handle to show the tang of this sword blade then i think i might have it nailed down to a chinese copy sword . if i am wrong then i will appoligize that i made a bad judgement call on your sword but every thing seems to point to a chinese copy sword hope you agree best andy militarynut

Based on the overall lack of quality, I have to agree with Militarynut. This speaks of Chinese. Early Chinese as the latest reproductions are really good.

hi jim
have to agree the chinese market on japanese samouri look a likes they are getting better and better last year had a good customer last year who bought japanese swords from me i remember teaching him what to look for and what not to buy learning japanese swords is an art and it takes years of studing and buying books i tell every customer make sure you know and trust who you are buying from and last remember this if you are looking for cheap in either japanese or german especially third reich find out first if thier reputation is as good as mine money back guarentee no questions asked no matter what sorry to say he found on his own on the internet a japanese sword made yesterday in china for sum of 3,500.00 jim this sword had to cost close to 1,000 to produce it he came to the kentucky show and i gave him the bad news a good chinese fake naturaly he called me a few choice names and told me i was full of you know what and left he lost the money and i lost a good buyer customer . i have seen so many buyers in this great hobbyin the last fifty years go on thier own and find the dishonest dealers in the hobby then these customers are lost forever we can go on and on but its true ok every body have a nice day andy militarynut

Andy,
Thanks so much for the detailed reply.
I will take the handle off as soon as I get a chance, and will post the pictures.
Bummer if it's not real, but I got it in with a bunch of stuff, so I did not get hurt.
Thanks again,
Chief

hi chief
thank you for takeing the handle off to see the tang of the blade if you look closely at the mounting holes on the tang to methey appear to be electric drilled and not hand punched they darkned the tang with ascid or sollution the signiture on the tsuba appears to be chinese markings in stead of japanese markings please have some one read them i could be wrong if i am then i will admit my mistake hope this helps you god bless andy militarynut
