This bayonet appears produced in the 3R based on the grip emblem which is a wide-winged type & WKC maker mark. Is the hilt aluminum?

Short model bayonets are believed to be for higher rank Polizei personel. From experience, short blade bayonets are certainly scarcer than their longer blade counterparts. How long is the blade? I ask because WKC made Polizei bayonets in several blade lengths. I have two, from memory, one is 10 1/2" & the other is 11/1/4", give or take.

WKC private purchase bayonets are also interesting in that their blades are the stiletto type which are narrower than the usually seen blade & they have a swedge. According to Ron Weinand & Gary Walker, WKC & Henckels are the only makers to have this feature. The scabbards also have nonscalloped fittings which is a nice feature.

Billy,yes the hilt is aluminum,but the blade is 9 5/8 long.

When I initially looked at your pics, it was on my phone. Now that I'm looking at it on a full screen, your bayonet appears to have a regular type wide blade. 3R produced examples are definitely scarcer than the Weimar cut down types & short models, particularly those by WKC are definitely interesting. It's a very nice pickup.

Probably a 1938 period production piece and a private purchase officer style. Not an easy type to find.

Speaking of these, I'm still pissed at myself that I didn't buy Ron's similar clanshell months back.

He who snoozes, looses. I have another WKC similar one without Clamshell, but just as nice.

You're right, I should have jumped when I saw your clamshell. There's always just too many items out there for collectors.

As it is, I've already got a short model WKC gold clamshell & a short model WKC without the clamshell as well. Both have the nonscalloped scabbard fittings & swedge blades.
