There were 7 medals awarded by Norway for war time service, some of which were awarded to foreign supporters of Norway.
The highest war time award as the War Cross with Sword (Krigskorset med Sverd). This award was instituted on May 23, 1941 and, in the time period of 1941 to 1949, 273 were awarded. One Norwegian naval officer was awarded one with three swords.
War time awarded ones were made by Spink in London.

The second highest award was the Haakon VII Liberty Cross (Haakon VIIs Frihetskors) and this was awarded to about 460 people, only 60 of whom were Norwegians. The award was for military and civil personnel for honourable actions on behalf of Norway and was instituted on the 18th of May, 1945.

The third highest award (and incidentally the hardest and costliest to find) is the St Olav Medal with Oak Leaf (St Olavsmedaljen med Ekegren). It was instituted on Feb. 6, 1942 and awarded to a total of 736 Norwegians, including one woman.
There are three versions of this medal, one made by Spink during wartime, the second by Rui after the war and the third by Thoresen in 1979.
This is the Rui version.

This is the Spink version.

The Haakon VII Liberty Medal (Haakon VIIs Frihetsmedalje) is the 5th highest wartime service award and was instituted on May 18, 1945.
It was awarded to some 204 Norwegians and 597 British citizens right after the war.

The 6th highest war time service award is the Participation Medal (Deltagermedaljen) and was awarded to some 30,000 military and civilian Norwegians who served in various positions in the armed forces and the merchant marine.
As an aside, my father in law, who spent the entire war period in the merchant marine and away from home was awarded one of these as a belated gesture in the 1970s.

Thanks, G.
Yes, some can be found with names and dates engraved on the back.
There are a few variations on the Krigskorset... one sword, one sword and rosette, two swords and three swords. I beleive that thelast three are one of a kind rare.

Here is the Krigsmedaljen (War Medal) with award document. Since, it is dated Nov, 1944, it is definitely war time!
Another pickup on my latest Norway trip.
