Hey guys
I just got this interesting Eickhorn.
It's a RZM only ,no date and with the motto.
I would say it's a early 1936 production,what you guys think ?

Indeed, quite an unusual Eickhorn HJ that is: early grip plates and mottoed blade with RZM only mark.

I took pictures of this knife and it does look to me like the seated squirrel mark was erased or buffed off the blade.
And, the reverse blade was ground a bit... you can tell by the top edge in the last photo.
What do you think?

If the seated squirrel stamp was ground of the blade i think the blade would look different to the way it looks now, to grind out a stamped MM you would have to go much deeper & that would leave a hollow into the metal !, i think this one only had the RZM stamp, but thats JMO, glad you managed to buy it for your collection.

Hi John,
In that case it must have been very heavy buffing on that blade. As you know, the squirrel normaly is stamped just above the RZM mark and I cannot see any traces of it on your pictures...
However, the squirrel applied on my 1936 (not dated) Eickhorn HJ-knife was applied lighter compared to the dated ones (1937, 1938,...)-> see hereunder

I hear you guys on this.
And, I have looked long and hard at the blade and the maker mark. First of all, the blade is smooth as a baby's bottom and there is absolutely no evidence of buffing or grinding, no hollow where the stain is.
Second, the stain, while it struck me as looking like the seated squirrel mark, is in the wrong place, as Herrmann, points out, and really is not the right proportion to be a ghost image. I show my transitional undated HJ maker mark for comparison as well.
In fact, I now think of this stain as like the image of Jesus that sometimes people see on toasted cheese sandwiches, or all in my mind.
I will be posting this knife in my Eickhorn thread, once I find it again.
I am happy with what it is.
