I picked up a nice example of a Japanese Junior Police Officer sword at a show over the weekend that I thought I would share. The Police and Army Officer swords are almost identical and are typically mistaken for one another. The hilt of the Police Officer sword has mums with only five petals whereas the Army Officer sword has mums with ten petals on the hilt. The Police sword also has a Police star insignia on the pommel where the Army sword has the ten petal mum.
The Police Officer sword is more scarce than the Army Officer Parade sword.
