I bought this war merit medal a few weeks ago but it has a wehrmacht type eagle? Has anyone seen this before. Its very unusual and I haven't ever bought one l like that in 20 years of collecting.. Everything else seems like your average cheapy war merit cross??

Sometimes returning vet.'s pinned items to cloth pieces or ribbons. Even leather belts, holsters and wallets.
Could have been done by some enterprising individual post war too.

That was my thought but I am certainly not a medals or badge expert. The proliferation of fakes has kept me mostly in other areas of the hobby unless the deal is right.. HavHave you seen this type of eagle in particular used on other items that are definitely legitimate? I haven't seen medal wehrmacht eagles so small. Thanks joe!

Adam, there is a lapel stick pin that should be that size. I don't have one to place on a ribbon to compare. Perhaps some kind soul will have an example to share. Not sure what purpose your two bendable prongs are for.
Can you fold the ribbon back and get a picture of the eagle reverse?

I got the best pictures i could get without trying to remove it.. I was thinking that possible a civilian war merit cross given to somebody that was in the service of the wehrmacht. Kinda like someone that would've wore one of those "Im Dienst der Deuschen Wehrmact" armbands? Just a thought.. I have ran across so many non text book things at buys over the years.. Some could definitely be post war but I'm sure much more was just different than the run of the mill stuff but perfectly legit. Just hard to ever know for sure..

I wonder? Could the eagle be a shoulder board emblem? Have seen silver eagles attributed to admin. Did the Kriegsmarine use eagles on shoulder boards?
