Occasionally, requests are posted here wishing to know the name of someone who can do restoration work. I dug out the following on Don, who has an excellent reputation for such work. I do not know if he us still doing it or not. He once advertised in Wittmann printed catalogs, where I found this. The contact information is dated and might not be current, but here it is:

Don Swanson Tel. 573 474 8003 (Between 7 and 9 pm, central, weekdays)

5140 N. Hwy. PP
Columbia, MO 65202-8262

Well, we all have our experiences. I have had several items repaired by Don, quite a while ago, and was very satisfied with his work and prices. It is immaterial to me whether people go to Don or not for repair work. He is not a close friend and I get no "cut" of what he makes off repairs. I can only say my personal experience with him has been positive. I have not had an SS handle or any other grip repaired by him, so cannot report any results. For those who might be interested, I would call Don first, describe the problem, listen to what he has to say and ask him frankly about what he can do and what he projects the outcome to be. Ask him if the repair will be undetectable and take it from there. I have nothing against Tom W. whatsoever and have never had repair work done by him. Quite a few years ago, another collector had an SS grip repaired by Tom and was satisfied with the work. A corner of the grip was broken out before the repair. I asked the collector if there was a "line" where the repair met the original wood and he replied there was. That would bother me and would not be acceptable. But, in fairness, that was quite a few years ago and repair techniques and materials have likely improved since then. To each his own on this topic and I wish all well who seek repair work. My original post was for information only, not an advertisement.

I can do sword repairs if anyone needs to have one fixed. Here are a few examples of my work.

You know when I was a motel buyer back in the later 70's, Can't believe how many Mint and unissued daggers came in. Now like most of the daggers that were Silver Plated , the plating is starting to come off on most of them. But I have to realize that was darn near 40 years ago. Well at close to 75 my plating was a lot better then.

I know more about classic cars myself, I try to keep the old cars from rusting away smile I see you are from Missouri , I am originally an old Okie Myself smile

WoW Cool Ritter, Well I don't know if you would call me a collector but I built many and Hade like maybe 6 at one time. I only have two left My 58 Belvedere and a 65 Belvedere Convertible. I did have and liked most all cars but I sort of turned into a Mopar Nut LOL I will keep the 58 and race it show it and drive it till I can no longer do it and I will sell it and buy me at least 2 SS Daggers One Chained and one enlisted man's LOL.

Bob that is cool that you still race the car. I just sold both of my SS daggers (33 & 36) last year to buy about 20 Army swords. The daggers were cool but not as cool as cars. I am working on a 69 Camaro that has been a drag car since day 1 and plan on making it a vintage 1972 era Pro Stock car. You think finding militaria is hard then you have never tried to track down vintage race parts. Mark

Yea Mark Nothing beats cars for a gear head LOL. My cars have all been hot rodder all my life Never have been a purest or number matching cars . I build them to suite myself and to do what I want to do with them. smile Every Mopar I have ever had a 440 went into them, That is my favorite Mopar engine even over the 426 Hemi. Original cars are nice but not for me LOL.

I am in the International Christine Car Club and Most of the guys want everything to be Movie Perfect, But here I am driving around with I'm not Christine Painted on the rear of my deck lid LOL.
If you need any car parts let me know we have Ton's of car nuts here in Idaho and Camaro's We have Lots of them smile
