Hello,
I need some help to identify this hewer/dagger depicted in the link above. It's nearly 18in. Long. Handle is full tang, black horn grips, S-shaped crossguard (probably nickel plated).
The blade has a single fuller on the right side and BACKFISCH stamped on the ricasso.
On adverse side there is the picture mark of Weyersberg, Kirchbaum&Cie. (King and Knight). The sheat is made of leather and the fittings seem to be nickel plated steel as well.
I suppose it's ca. 1900-dated and for hunting purpose. On a french site they guessed it could be a FORSTBEHÖRDE knife, something official? Others stated it could be a Kind of "London hunting Knife" made by WKC for export before WW1.

Any better information?
Cheers,
Fenris

Hi Fenris

I've seen a few of these over the years and thought of them as just a large German hunting knife(standhauer) of some sort from around 1890-1920, I've never researched them to find out more, they could be for export, perhaps Backfisch was their mark for there export wares, certainly WK&c had offices in London prior to WW1, only research will tell you if this is the case.

Regards

Gary
