Hello gents.

I would like to show you some images of my Pack SS M.33, along with a Pack SA M.33 dagger for comparison.

To start with I love EP&S quality and finish, in almost all cases I have encountered the grip fittings are superb. The cross guards are always very straight, especially evident on this SA dagger. The grip eagles appear to be the same high necked variety.

A slight negative point on this SS is that the scabbard had been painted at some point, but the quality of the paint work seems to indicate a III Reich period job.

Not a negative, but an interesting aspect is the patina and colour of the SS grip. It is I believe hard ebony, and it has black and dark brown stripes running through it.

Your opinions would be greatly valued.

Will

Scabbard looks like a late period one.

Hi Will, nice blades you have there! The scabbard of the SS looks like if it has been repainted at some point in time.

Thanks. The scabbard has definitely been repainted. It would have been anodised originally as we all know. The question is when was it repainted. It's a high quality job, and has obvious signs of ageing, so it could have been done 30 years ago of 70 years ago during the period. If the dagger was issued in 1935 and worn regularly, it would have needed a repaint by 1939. The fit to crossguards when it is sheathed is absolutely perfect.

I bought this SS from a good source, (TW) a few years ago, and haven't found a better blade on an SS since then, although I've aquired some other examples. Pack remains one of my favourite producers.
