Hi there, I m keen on cold weapons of the third reich, beside others I have in my little collection this HJ knife. I'm not sure about originality, moreover I can't find B&D logo nowhere, which is on the blade. Would like to know your opinion. There is no other mark or logo on the knife or on the scabbard. Thank you for your posts.
P.

Hello Pavel,

"B&D" is not known as a period mark for HJ knifes.

What about the hilt, is it magnetic?

Would like to see more detailed pictures of this knife: diamond, fingerguard of the hilt, complete blade, ...

Best regards,

Herman

Hello Herman,

hilt is not magnetic.
diamond does not fit perfectly, was definitely replaced, knife-handle rivets are different to my second Eickhorn knife which I suppose to be 100% real.
So the question about B&D knife is, whether it is completely fake or just assembled from original parts.
I wonder about B&D, if I made a fake like this I would use mark of a historical producer?
Cheers
Pavel

Hello Pavel,

Thx for posting these extra pictures.

Yes, it seems that there has been some "work done" on this knife: grip plates and diamond.

Also, there are very few period mottoed knifes, which have an alloy hilt. Until 1938 there was no real need to use alloy as there was no scarcity of steel in Germany: the war had not even begun yet.

Best regards,

Herman
