hello,
a well-known scored this dagger at a flea market for small money.
Earlier WKC with unusual black handle. Handle is cracked is shorter than the Klaas. Has anyone ever seen something like that?
The handle is not colored but probably ausTrolon?
What do you say?
Best regards Oliver

Hello oli1970, for me this is a later (the form for me does not conform to early WKC pieces) yellow trolon grip which was colored later on. When it was done and for what purpose I do not know.
But due to certain typical traces and a special feature of the color I personally think the coloring was done not too long ago with a black felt pen.
Just my opinion from these pics.

Fittings and scabbard(missing throat screws) do look correct initial WKC, and these guys did use type C grip with these fittings (I have one!), but that grip color is strange indeed. As Wotan says it may be purposely colored post war, or could it be that this dagger was exposed to a house fire?? Crack in grip is unusual and could indicate extreme heat exposure..? Kevin.

Hmm very interesting.
I've seen a grip like this somewhere before. I do not think it was exposed to a fire. The only reason I know is cause I experimented on one years ago. I stuck it in a toaster on low heat- it nearly doubled in size grin
in only darkened slightly.
