Just got back, thought I'd post this for your enjoyment. Came with the hangers as well.

Very nice example Gary. Love the patinated silver portepee. Condition is outstanding particularly the blade. Congratulations. An Alcoso example is missing from my collection. This one is a classic.

Now I know why others say there was no nice navy at the show.... you already had the nicest sacked. The hammered scabbard rings are a remarkable Attribute on this well conditioned dagger with hammered scabbard, yellow grip and sailing ship etching. Well done.

Thanks guys, I thought you would appreciate such a nice piece,

Tom

I looked at plenty of army daggers but nothing spectacular stood out for me, I saw a number of slants but the condition and make up never took my fancy.

Wotan/Rick

It wasn't really a tough decision to buy this one, definitely the best at the show, the dealer who I bought this from had a couple of other Navy's that were also outstanding, I just didn't have enough money to buy anything else otherwise I would have. The hammered rings were the clincher for me.

Here's a few pictures of the hangers that came with it, these have the same great condition as the dagger.

Great piece Gary. I personally like Alcoso's Navies due to the unique cross guard they used, and because they are a quality company! The scabbard is a beauty, those rings are stand outs and so is the rest, WELL done! If you move it some day keep me in mind.. always wanted one. wink Kevin.

P.S. You do realize a statement like "I saw a number of slants" haunts me and Tom!!.. we need more info.. makers ..anything!! hahaa! cry

Kevin

The slants were WKC, Pack and Weyersberg, I did see another couple but didn't like them, looked a mixture of parts to me, none of them were in a condition where I would buy, there is just so many daggers that it is hard to pick them all up, the set up at Kassel is not like the USA shows, a lot of daggers are not within a good visual distance and are hung up on the back of the booths, you have to ask to see most daggers, it doesn't make it easy to see everything like you can at the Max and SOS. This navy was such an example, the bright orange grip and the completeness of the dagger with knot and hangers attracted me first. I could have missed many other slant daggers because they were not right within my eyeliner.

Here is a classic booth from Kassel, totally different than the USA shows.

Kevin:

Paul Hogle and I have talked about going to the Kassel show for several years now.

Maybe, one day soon, we can put together a trip to Germany to do this.

Paul, let's talk some more at the SOS (or sooner wink
