Could someone tell me what kind of holsters and equipment that the Bahnschutz used or post some examples. From what I have gathered it should be black and mostly of commercial manufacture. I am attempting to piece together a Bahnschutz luger rig. Thanks George

George,

Take a look at the pinned thread on the Bahnschutzpolizei above.

There are a lot of answers that should help you. Generally speaking the belts and holsters should be black for Bahnschutz however armed Reichsbahn members serving outside the Reich wore a variety of equipment.

Thank you Orpo, I looked thru pictures on the displays with great interest. I recently picked up a RBDMg marked luger, I have a black commercial holster that I wanted for use for it. Would that be correct. GR

Yes, that holster would be OK and in line with what the Reichsbahn supplied. I am certain you know that the railway protection units were quite diverse including military Eisenbahn units as well as specific Bahnpolizei units who were Deutsche Reichsbahn employees.

would Orpo/reserve police troops be used also ( partisan or guard duty ), I have seen pictures of Heer troops in service to Reichsbahn ( wearing armbands ) I do not if the same would apply to other branches? and yes quite diverse as I have found out. Seems like they used whatever they could find or get.

Ordnungspolizei and Sicherheitspolizei would be used for train security under some circumstances. For instance, prisoner or KZ transports would be accompanied by Orpo or Sipo troops. It depended upon what was being transported or personnel staffing requirements.

Bahnschutzpolizei would have primary authority for Deutsche Reichsbahn asset protection while some militarized units could be in charge of passenger monitoring on trains and/or in train stations. Regular Orpo units might also be seen on trains or in train stations. No easy answer I am afraid.

Notice that the three men in the photograph are not security personnel but are armed railway employees. The two on the left appear to be wearing black Heer belts while the one on the right appears to be wearing a brown Czech belt. The early NS Zeit Reichsbahn wore Czech Cz27 pistols that were property marked to the Deutsche Reichsbahn on the trigger guard like regular Polizei pistols. Here are a couple of other weapons that are property marked to the railway.

I have a few books The Reichsbahn, that on the eastern front they wore a mix of blue and grey uniforms, some are well armed ( partisan patrols I would guess ), I have a early REV and other rail markings on the Kar98, Bz marked bayo to Cassel, and a luger I just purchased. I will resize some pictures shortly.

Orpo, some of my Railroad weapons. I buy them when I can find them and they do not come around often. The luger fits well in Weimar police lugers, always wanted one.

Very nice! The short lived Reichs Eisenbahn Verwaltung carbines are very hard to find. It is great to see another one.
