I would like the forum's opinion on this dagger that I recently picked up. I am pretty sure that the blade is a genuine WKC blade. The stamp looks good and there is obvious crossgrain. My question is whether any of the other parts are genuine.
1. Grip - I'm 99% certain it is fake. It is plastic on wood with an obvious side seam. Way too light to be genuine.
2. Ferrule - I think fake
3. Pommel - I think fake, but not a bad one.
4. Crossguard - Here I am a little unsure, but leaning towards fake.
5. Scabbard - Has the single side screw hole, but it looks to be fake.
I understand that people will be reluctant to give reasons for their opinion, but I appreciate any help from the forum. I've added photos of key elements, but if anyone would like others, let me know.
Thanks,

Dave

Like to see a few more pics of the hilt assembled to see fit and finish, but looks like a late but correct WKC Heer.. boy, that's a really neat personalization too! Kevin.

Thanks Kevin. Here are some more pictures. The fit is actually pretty tight. Your comment is why I posted here. I've handled a number of genuine pieces from earlier in the war, but not too many late war pieces when I know the quality started to go downhill. I'm fairly suspicious of a few things as I mentioned in my original post, but the blade seems right.

Wittmann has a WKC Army dagger for sale and there are some differences with your dagger. Take a look at the Eagle and Swastika (details) or the pommel.

I'm still not seeing a problem with this piece.. Eickhorn style bands on the scabbard but these are often seen on WKC Heers..single screw hole also correct as far as I can see, love the edelweiss! Kevin.

For me it looks like a late in period manufactured WKC dagger, it has the typical finish for these late daggers. Although the wooden core within the grip looks somehow overdimensional.

BUT
I don´t like the personalisation -how nice the edelweis ever does look- as there is a spelling error within the incription never would have been done by a german sppeking person.....

Wotan,
Thanks for your comment. Are you referring to the "ä" in the abbreviation for Jäger, thinking it might be an "ö"?

I'm attaching a few additional photos (one a repeat) for a second look. I don't know if it will help or not, but maybe it gives a slightly clearer confirmation of what you are saying.

Yes, "ö" is of other construction than "ä" (there are also some other anomalies which let me think that the engraver has not been very familiar with the gothic script). I also would be very suspicious about using gothic script such late in the period as gothic letters oficially had to be omitted at this times. Naturally they did still occur also at late times because such inscriptions were privately done but at least it rises suspection and in connex with the mishappened letter (which leads to the origin of the incription - a non german person) I would be very careful and personally would not like this dagger in my collection.
