I picked this up over the weekend at the Lakeland, Fl. gun show. A friend was selling it , on consignment , for the family of a recently deceased collector. It's the first one I've ever seen up close and personal. The asking price wasn't cheap but was much less than one would pay for one from one of the top shelf dealers so it came home with me. Do we know what type of knot would have been used with this? Here are some pics.

Beautiful looking example, congrats. I have one & am always impressed with the quality of the parts as well as the obvious workmanship that went into its construction. If you ever remove the grip plates, you'll see that the hilt & blade are one piece, unlike the typical KS98 dress bayonet. I don't recommend doing it unless you're very careful, I've heard horror stories of people snapping the spanner nuts.

I notice that there are two different numbers on the crossguard, is there a corresponding number on the scabbard anywhere?

I believe the Luftwaffe Forestry bayonet was sometimes worn with the Luftwaffe officer's dagger silver bullion portepee.

I want one, I want one, oh well maybe someday. The grip bolts and nuts are all turned in the same direction . I've seen several in hand and a lot of photos but I don't remember two different numbers on the cross guard. A very nice piece, Oh, I need one:).

A very nice example Len. I too would say to leave the screwbolts alone as they are not steel but a softer nickel alloy and mar easily.

I am not very experienced with these "bajonets" (these aren´t bayonets, these are knives but they are always called bayonets by us collectors) but with TKissinger´s words "I need one" too!
Up to now all I have seen and COULD have bought the condition was not overwhelming so up to now I do not own any.
Congratulations to this very nice piece! Also nice is this LW brown frog. The double number is perhaps a reissue?
We do know very little concerning these bayonets but sometimes I see one in a collection with a LW leather strap troddel which I think would be proper for it.

Thanks for your comments guys. There aren't any numbers on the scabbard Billy and I'm definitely not removing the grips George. They've been unmolested for seventy odd years and I'm content to let them remain that way.

Thanks for checking Len. I've occasionally seen very small numbers stamped into the side of the scabbard throat, barely noticeable. This is just one of those unusual & underappreciated blades I love.
