Hey Guys,
I have had this badge for quite some time and never figured out exactly I had. So here it is. I thought it may be Austrian?

Erik, this is a Prussian pilots badge. As to authenticity, I'll let the experts chime in. This is a difficult field of collecting and I gave it up as there is always so much controversy as to what is genuine and what is a forgery. To complicate matters, these were made up until the 1940's.

I am always suspicious of badges that are overly marked with the maker, the mark of genuine silver (moon, crown) and being marked 800 on the pin and back. Someone trying too hard to convince others that it is genuine? The originals I have handled are very finely made and might have a maker mark and/or the 800 silver. Again, I do not profess to be an expert as I gave up this facet of the hobby after 3 years of study. Therefore it is only my opinion. There are some new great references out on this topic by Stephen Previtera. May want to check them out.
