After many years of searching, through the efforts of the authority on and the most noted of the SA collectors a Carl Haas SA has fallen into my collection and completes the roundup of all the McSarr known manufacturers. The Carl Haas appears to be the second or third of the rarest manufacturers of SAs and led us on quite a chase !!!

Amazing! Has anyone done this before? If not an award is in order, I would think. Congratulations!

I agree, but none of our current awards seem to fit. I'll talk to Vern about a new one.

May I add my congratulations as well. Where do you go from here? Upgrade pieces over time…perhaps add trademark variations? shocked

I'm deeply impressed. All makers ... That's quite an achievement, considering some of them are almost impossible o find in (at least) decent condition. Respect.

I also wonder about condition. Is it possible to gather them all in an untouched condition? I mean: nice grip, a fine blade, a relative perfect scabbard and no crussed scabbard ball. I know that Herman has a lot of very nice SA daggers but is it also possible when your collection runs into the hundred and you have to search after very very rare makers?

Regards, Wim

My advise would be if you see a manufacturer that you do not have, buy it. You can always replace it if you find a better one down the road. I can't tell you how many times i passed on a dagger and then not seen another for 5 years. With the McSarr 1thru 7 you will be able to find quality daggers at reasonable prices, above that the game begins to find a presentable dagger at a price you can afford.

What daggers of the most difficult to find? Who are these makers? For example the 5 most rare?

Ilya: I don't know if I'm really qualified to answer that question - Dr McAlvanah or Paul Hogle would be vastly more qualified but my list would be 1. Melcher, Arthur 2. Haas,Carl, 3.Hack.J.,4. Malsch, A., and 5. Reuleaux, J.

Once you get to the "10" rated daggers on MCSARR, I think that the difficulty in finding a dagger reflects more on an individual's difficulty in finding that particular dagger.
