Gents,

Would you please be so kind as to lend your expertise assessing this P-08? I don't know too much about them so anything you could tell me about this one would be most appreciated. I'm especially interested in a fair retail value as I have a chance to get it if it isn't crazy money. The gent is asking 2K and the piece seems to be in pretty good shape with matching numbers. A bit of wear to the grip plates but nothing terrible. The date closest to the barrel is 1938.

Many thanks for your help.

S/42 marked chamber dated Luger was produced by Mauser and can be dated 1934-1939. Matching numbers with matching numbered magazine can be found on several sites running $1800 (90% original finish) to $2500 (95% original finish). Higher condition can push the price up rapidly. That one has a broken ejector. It also shows a fair amount of wear to the stock lug which seems unusual compared to the condition of the rest of the piece. Could it be partially refinished?

Vern,

Yes, it could be refinished, I'd imagine anything's possible??
As with anything unfamiliar it's better to make sure instead of making a costly mistake. Thanks for looking this over for me, I truly appreciate your time!

Best regards!

Bill

Glad to help. If it is "touched up" or partially re-blued, value would go way down wink

From the photos I'd have to agree. The blueing doesn't look original.

That one dose look touched up a bit and the grip plates ware don't seem to match the finish. And for 2k I would look for a much nicer one. Also the 1938 S/42 is one of the most common years to find.

My poor old 1938 has that been there done that twice look smile
