Looks like a late war bevo enlisted tab to me. That type of card board backing was being used instead of buckram towards the end of the war. You will see it in many types of collar tabs not just SS. I believe it is legit.

It's too bad we don't have some of the early threads on tabs..do you recall the one from about 8 or 9 years ago that had a bevo tab, backed with cardboard from a c-ration box!..liberated from the depot.
