I acquired my 1st combat K98 bayonet today or at least I think I did. I bought it on a whim decided to take a chance. I have been interested in starting collecting bayonets so like everything else you need a starting point. I did some research on the net but really need a good guide/book.
From what I can see I don’t think it is a reproduction but this is not my forte.

The maker is marked on one side and it is a matching set to scabbard.
Mundlos is the maker.

Opposite side reads
6921
X

Waffen proofs are present on hilt (x2), one near the base of where the lug would insert, and ball of scabbard. No signs of sharpening and the blueing has held up well close to 90% I would say.
Is this anything special or your run of the mill K98?
Now that I holding this in my hand I can see why these are collected and I hope I did not create another monster.

Looks like good start for the collection a decent shape S84/98 looks like correct blueing on blade, WaA243 most probably on parts, the frog looks correct for the period.Mundlos Magdeburg 1938 production. It should be oiled on parts, that will not rusted more on surface. There are some good books George Wheeler, Seitengewehr 1918-45, some good sites in Inet, k98.free.fr
