dear friends ,
I have in my small collection some german police bayonets and I would like to find/buy the correct frogs.
But there are too many different frogs models and I am lost .
Would it be possible to know the characteristics of the frogs designed for these police bayonets ??
Thank you very much for your help .

Hello !
No answer up to now . This surprises me . Yes , the answer to my question is not easy , but I am sure that several specialists could at least list the main characteristics of such frogs .
Hope some will send some comments .

Jean,

I will attempt an answer. I presume you are asking about the issue Polizei Seitengewehr with stag grips and leather scabbard? This being the case you need a black one for a black leather scabbard or a brown one for a brown leather scabbard. The frog for this bayonet was made to carry either the PS described above or the S84/98 so they will be the same size. The frog for the smaller KS98 and larger S98/05 (both used by the Police) are incorrect.

These frogs can be made with or without rivets but should not have a retaining strap. If you show us your bayonet we can probably help you further rather than just confuse you more.

ORPO : thanks a lot for your answer . I meet some problem to add photo. The system tells me that the size is too high . I reduce to 40kb (max seems to be 123kb) and still doesn't work !
I can send you some picture if you send me your email address .
I confirm that my question concerns the polizei seitengewehr with stag grips and leather scabbard . Some of these bayonets have a clampshell (weimar period) , other no and have the III reich police insignia on the grip.
have a nice day ,

Jean,

Here are a couple of examples of frogs for the Polizei Seitengewehr. These are basically the same frog as for the S84/98 made without a retention strap. Some will have rivets and some will not but they will have the wasp waist cut above the front pocket so the bayonet sits lower in the frog than for the KS98. Brown military frogs are more brown while brown Gendarmerie frogs are more orange in color. Black is black.

I hope this is helpful.

Generally police bayonet frogs are found with four rivets (usually aluminum) to help support this fairly heavy bayonet. They tend have a better finished leather than the regular K98 and are more narrowly form fitted to the bayonet as the above pictures show.
