I hsve the following eight entries in my data base for leader daggers with Schulpforta markings and their respective chain assemblies (blade trade marks per Ron Weinand's "Waffenleite").
Sch.40 no data
Sch.46 nickel chain/zinc DRGM clip/type 1 TM
Sch. 16 ali chain/ali OLC clip/type 1 TM
Sch. 119 (your dagger) ali chain/ali OLC clip/ type 2 TM
Sch. 125 nickel chain/zinc DRGM clip/ type 2 TM
Sch.138 nickel chain/zinc DRGM clip/ type 1 TM
Sch. 179 ali chain/OLC ali clip/type 1 TM
Sch. 11 nickel chain/unmarked nickel clip/ type 1 TM
I presently have ninety five leader daggers on my data base. This is a statistically significant sample, imo. The breakdown of chain types observed are:
nickel chain/zinc DRGM clip - total 38 nickel chain/unmarked nickel clip - total 23 ali chain/mostly OLC marked clips - total 31 chain absent from dagger - total 3
survey grand total - 95
Taken overall, my survey does not show any definite correlation between particular chain types and a particular period TM.

Wow, Barry ... that is quite impressive. It gives me the confidence to continue the sale of this piece as 100% original.

Thanks, Ed. By the way, do you still have that great etched piece from Ebay?

Unless the photo is bad, the scabbard color is not correct IMO.

For comparison with Sch. 119; close ups of what I think is the original paint job on Sch. 16

Barry, this to me is a mis-match as the dagger has nickel silver early fittings and the scabbard has the later, plated fittings and, to me, the paint is wrong. JMO.

Ron, SCH. 119 was discussed in some detail over on WAF back in August/September where it was finally confirmed by Craig Gottlieb that his dagger had plated guards and type 2a TM. SCH. 16 which I showed in this GDC thread, as a check against the suspect paint colour on 119, has early nickel guards and type 1 TM.
