The eagle seems to belong to this grip, as it fits perfectly and the green verdigris presence matches the SA roundel showing the same feature. The missing piece of wood may be result of someone's attempt to remove the eagle. I don't like the grip/lower crossguard fit, but in case of late production dagger it may be just a producer's fault (or wood shrinkage). Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the eagle.
