Gentlemen,

let's have a short look on an Imperial German Naval dagger.

What is important to understand is, that basically for cadets and officers the same daggers were regulated with the exception of the crown.
Cadets had to wear the closed crown variation, officers an open crown pommel. So we can see from time to time a 1890 cadet dagger with a replaced crown pommel worn by an officer.

This dagger has an interesting variation, it is both. Half an open crown pommel, half a closed one.
I've seen such a crown on a heavy Naval dagger, first time to see it on a 1890 pattern dagger.

The dagger was worn by Kapit�nleutnant Pr�sch from the Bremerhaven naval-base.

Nice Imperial dagger. I happen to be looking at one of these right now, but a little on the salty side with an ivory handle. Yours is in beautiful condition and the documented personalization is just pure icing on the cake!!!

As you know these personalized pieces are the core of my collecting interest and in all these years I have never seen a half open / half closed pommel. This piece is in incredible condition particularly considering its age. Yes, to me the hand crafted Imperial Navy daggers and swords represent the high water mark for craftsmanship and customization of bladed sider-arms. You made my day and I thank you for sharing this beautiful piece.
