I need some help with this piece. I have never held one in hand just photos. Thanks for your opinions. Much appreciated.

Not a period piece IMO but some well known dealers believe they are.

The case is period. The latches and the case fit other desk items such as my 3/4 size "first Model Navy" dagger. Same manufacturer. IMO these are period. WIsh I had one. Rick

I do "love" the flowers ornament on the reverse of the letter opener. The Reichsheini always has been a big admirer of flowers..... A typical feature of the SS . Regards,

I do hope so, otherwise it is a tragedy concerning originallity. Have you EVER seen anything comparable to the flowers ornament on ANY doubtless period SS item, especially a doubtless H.H. gift? Regards,

Rumor has it that the flowers were because they were "special gifts" for his female admirers. (And so there is no mistake, my comment is facetious.) FP

this was on WAF and I posted on it.. 3 or 4 SOS shows ago the woman that owns the piece brought it with her. A potential buyer wanted to show it to one of the dagger experts. When he returned with it the potential buyer said the dagger expert said no good a fake. The owner was furious saying 'it was good a few years ago when my husband was alive!'
