Thank you for your comments, guys. Yes, Allach squirrels, but they have many fine furry friends from other manufacturers. John

Nope, not true, Tom.
In fact, you are only one of two squirrelly ones that I know in Texas, and I would never think of smuggling you into my fine country.

Nice Eickhorns you have there. I have a transitional Eickhorn from 1939 (possible Marine dagger). I'll try to post some pics...just have to figure out how to do it.

So, I have a question for you Eickhorn fans out there.
The large serrated squirrel TM found on early Rohm daggers...the one with the squirrel over CE... are there two variations of this? One with no preiods, simply CE, and one with periods, C.E.?
Here is the one with no periods.

John if you take some time and compare with the example below you will see the two marks are different the letters do not exactly match telling me that these were etched with two different templates. Not sure if that constitutes a variation but they are definitely different.

I saw that Paul, but wasn't sure that the letter differences weren't only caused by a different slant of the blade on the two dagger pictures.
To my untutored and aging eyes, the two TMs do look different enough that I can call them TM variations.
Of course, you know what this means, don't you?

John, Paul,
That is indeed very interesting and also new to me!
This means that there are 6 different maker marks by Eickhorn on their Röhm daggers... amazing!
Here is my large serrated: it has the "dotted C.E." mark.
Best regards,
Herman

The one shown by Paul withe the C.E. is missing from my collection, but is on its way to me from Paul.

My first arrival in 2015! And, you have seen this before in this thread.
Thank you, Paul at Lakesidetrader.com!
This is the early large double oval serrated tail squirrel over C.E. (that is the CE with periods).
This is the same mark as shown by Herman as well.
Only goes to show that all things come to he who waits.

One of the best things about GDC and this hobby for me is the friendships that I have made over the years. Friends multiply my ability to find those great items to fill holes in my collection. So, along with big thanks to Serge M, Kevin R and Mat J, I have been able to finally find what I consider to be the rarest TM used by Eickhorn. No, it isn't the single oval, why, because there are multiple examples of the single oval in collections (sadly, not yet in mine), And, I know of only two examples of this mark, here and in a collection n the USA.
This is a transitional, which means that it has both the Eickhorn seated squirrel mark as well as the RZM 7/66 mark. What makes this so rare is that the date is 1940, where almost all 1940 dated Eicks use the RZM code only. The second rarity is the word 'Original' located over the squirrel.
Not mint, with a couple of dings in the edge of the scabbard and a few grey spots on the blade, this is a great and welcome addition to my Eickhorn collection.

Cool, John.
Thanks for showing. That 1940 is hard to find.
