Hi all,
here is one which i've bought a few days ago. Not mint and a repainted scabbard, but everything fits very well! This dagger came out of an yard sale ,through a friend of mine. Any thoughts are welcome, Gerd

Look at the way the handle seems to grow out of those crossguards....a trademark of Boker. Nice early small oval....you can re-dye the handle cheers, Ryan

Nice find Gerd. Congratulations! I'm guessing that since it came from a yard sale...you stole it(price wise)?

That handle looks awesome, now that's it's mostly brown, but original. Keep it as is! John

Real Boker. Ground Rohm. Very unusual to see an SS grip that brown. Overall, very nice and appears to be original in every way. A very nice find.

Thanks for your comments & advices! I'm glad to own it in my collection and i leave it as it is.The "colour"of this grip is faded, after all this years. I saw a few faded ss grips, but never one so bright. @Ed,yes.But i wish i could repeat it every month. The wooden grip fits perfect into the guards. This Bker is a nice add on to my early unmarked vertical hanger, which i've bought a few month ago. Here are a few pics, hope you like it too. Regards, Gerd

Quite a few SS grips were hardwoods dyed black. You do not usually see the black having faded as much as the ones above, but brown wood showing through is not a problem.

Hi Gerd!! Nice find..and i have to echo Dave H. sentimments...the grip dye is practically worn off..which tells me that the SS mann who had this must of been standing guard somewhere with his hand on it at all times..most likely a staunch supporter. Great find Gerd Regards Larry

I wonder if removing the paint might turn up a worn but better anodizing on the scabbard.
Years ago I did this for a friend with an EP&S SS dagger. The paint looked about the same. I used paint remover on a piece of sponge to try out an area on the back. In the garage, with the door open, and a good fan blowing the fumes away. Little by little, the original finish emerged. The anodizing was very thin in places, but looked much better than paint.
Nothing was lost if it did not work since the paint job was not that good and could always be re-applied.
Dave

it has been my experience that many of these re paints were accomplished post war. Most of the time (not always) if the scabbard paint does not have age spidering or other signs of age than it has most likely been done post war. Regards, Ryan

I'll try to remove the lower fitting of the scabbard and see what's going on. Gerd

I pulled a ground rhm from the woods and it was never in a collection before ,, it had a repainted scabbard and grip, there was no "spidering "on it ..

There are many pre-36 NSKK painted scabbard with perfect paints, at one time these were very desirable and many were used as replacement parts for existing SS daggers.

Agree Pat! but my example had the same paint on the grip as the scabbard it was some kind of laquier. All I am trying to say is , that the paint found on scabbards doesnt necessary have to show spidering ,

Hi I agree, period paint does not always show spidering or wear. I did state this. A mint scabbard with mint paint will usually accompany a "mint" dagger as well. You would of course judge the entire piece. By the pictures supplied here the painted scabbard appeared to have been accomplished post war cheers, Ryan
