Just returned from OVMS Roberts Center Show and yes I took pics!

Terry Patton had this and I was blown away! I have not seen anything like this before!

Joe Rosenthal took the pic of raising the flag!

And signed by 3 survivors!

A piece of US history and a pleasure to show!

One of my Marine Corps friends who was at Iwo Jima with the 5th Marines told me he personely knew all the flag raisers along with Gen Smith. He spent 30 years in the Corps and is still alive at age 94. He has told me stories that were never in any books such as Gen Smith killing a salior at Camp Pendelton driving a jeep drunk. And was never prosecuted because it would have messed up the invasion plans just before the Iwo Jima landings. I have gone with him to Iwo Jima reunions and had a great time.

For me: The most climatic moment in US military history !!! Has to be the most recognized event from World War II in an era when the average US citizen under 20 cannot tell you who fought on what side in that war.

A wonderful assembly of history. A friend of my father was on Iwo. He went in with the first wave and was interviewed for the book Flags of our Fathers. He talks in the book about his experiences and sharing a foxhole with Ira Hayes on Tarawa and until a few years ago didnt know Johnny cash wrote a song about Ira. Great guy and still alive though his health has limited him in recent years.

This is really a true piece of history to have. Anyone no matter what type of collector would love to have that as it is a iconic symbol of the war...
