It is with a heavy heart and real true upset that I have to report to fellow collectors that John Pepera has passed away. I'm afraid I do not have the details. I last spoke with John on the 16th May a couple of days before the last time he logged in to WAF. He was in good spirits and in fact we were working on a deal!

John will be missed by us all.

RIP

John Pepera

Deepest sympathy to his family!

I agree with Ryan! A great loss to the collecting community!

John was from my area and remember him before he had his first dagger!

His knowledge and collection was unbelievable and if you ever saw it you wouldn't believe it!

RIP John you will be missed!

To echo what Paul said, his Gold party badge and honor ring collection were outstanding. Where does one start? He was a terrific fellow always ready to help.

Wow, We talked a few weeks ago and he mentioned his health was not too good. I did not expect this to happen this quick.
He is a legend in the hobby! My first deal with him was when I was about 12 years old!
He will be missed!

John will be missed by all that knew him, he was a great asset to our collecting community. He always took time for newcomers and old hands alike, sharing his wealth of knowledge just for the asking. My sincere sympathy goes out to his family at this sad and melancholy time.

Rest easy old friend.

RIP
You know it would be great to have a place to put his GDC profile as well as so many others that have left us over the years. Just a thought.

Paul is spot on a section with his profile and his best and last posts...a moving tribute...unfortunately I seriously doubt if there will be much left in regards to other members who have passed with the many problems this site has encountered over the years...deleted threads and all. Perhaps Vern or Dave can speak to the feasibility of such a noble undertaking. Regards, Ryan

RIP, John.

I did not know him well but we exchanged quite a bit of correspondence when I put up some pictures of WWII newspapers printed by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. John had worked for them.

Ryan is correct. Not much left after several software changes.

Our success in a permant memorial is not good. For those of you with long memories, think of Barry Morgan, an expert on Lugers. We renamed the firearms forum the Barry Morgan Firearms Forum but within about 18 months, new guys were asking who is that? The internet moves fast.

I can set up a thread mentioning late members if that suits everyone. I am trying to remember who we might include.

Barry Morgan
Anthony Carter
Bill Stump
Sterling Gambino

Help me with more names of prominent members who passed on ...

Dave

My God.....what a loss to the hobby!! Im stunned and saddened...... John was quite helpful in many ways to many people. An Unselfish person who would take the time to stop and speak to the little guy just starting out in the hobby. Peace be upon his family during this time. God Bless Him.

This is how WAF play it. As you can see some passed members there have over 10,000 page views and it allows members to add there respects.

It is a strong testimonial that so many have such good things to say. So to all Mr. Pepera's family and friends I wish peace of heart and mind.

Lest we forget.

Just happened to learn the sad news, he probably had one the best SS collection in the world and was always eager to help others, a true unselfish gentleman and a great loss to the collecting community as a whole.
May he rest in peace.

I did not know john very well. I had sold him an expensive item a couple of months ago, sent him the item with no money down and he sent a check, no problems , no fuss.He will clearly be missed by the collecting community.
Thanks
Bob

I had known John for several years and had answered some of his questions on medications and his diabetes questions. I had known his health had been failing for sometime, but its never easy to loose a fellow collector, especially one so much of an expert. He loved the hobby and was more than willing to share experiences

I did not know him personally either, although I made a few transactions with him through this forum. I was quite impressed with his tables at the Max and the SOS. Especially the collection of Golden Party Badges. He even add some marked "AH" on the back. These were attributed by Adolph Hitler himself. As for his daggers, Wittmann's SS book shows quite a few pieces from his collection.

Where do we stand on the thread honoring late members of GDC?

Anyone have names to add to Dave's request?

It was an honor to be his friend.. Rest in peace..
