Did that imperial dagger really sell for 1800 euro's??? Must have been by someone with bad eyes.... Or is it just me not seeing the true value of this piece?

Danny,

the true value here is history, not condition.
And even from a monetary point of view this dagger was cheap. The buyer already has a much higher offer which he refused.

Heinrich Mathy was the most daring and (in)famous Luftschiffer of the Great War.

Danny,

sorry, the smiley I've added is misleading. That was my fault, but too late to change it. Indeed this is a unique piece of history, and I'm happy to own it. That was the reason why, sorry again.

Bedankt.

Hermann,

Thanks for the extra info. Now I see it really was me not seeing the true value smile I must admit I didn't know who Heinrich Mathy was.
I totally agree with you, it's the history of a piece that counts. Congretulations on your new addition to your fine collection.

... we had this interesting discussion 'what makes you want a dagger' and I've answered 'history'.
This dagger, even with well worn fittings and an aged blade matches this way of thinking.

Thanks for looking.

Great little story!

I agree the history is the story here!

You are lucky to find this dagger and know what to do!

Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful piece Hermann. A fully researched personalized piece simply exudes history and makes an albeit well crafted and beautiful weapon come alive. Personally I will take historical significance over condition any day.
