Hey guys. Have added a piece that I have been after for about 8 years now. It is the sword on the left in the fist picture. Also pictured on page 15 of Michigan Antique Arms Collectors issue 1987. Length is 30 inches, ray skin covering, plain blade in original polish and probably the finest detailed sword in my collection. Circa aprox 1850. Camera is acting up and will post some better pictures as soon as i trade it in on a new one.

Definitely over the top!
Beautiful.

What's the blade etch/embellishment (if any) look like?

Congratulations.

Roger, No etch/embellishment on either blade of the two swords shown. Both have plain blades but of very high quality. For some reason most of my older pieces with fancy fittings have plain blades and many with plain fittings have highly embellished blades. You would think they would put the two together but for some reason the older pieces tend to be that way. When i get my new camera, will take some better detailed pictures for the back sides of the fittings are as detailed and nice as the front side. Thanks everyone for your comments for i am very proud of the family addition. James

James,

These two look like works of art, truly splendid! I'm already looking forward to seeing more photos, please add some shots like the second photo, the grips and clamshell areas?

Glad to see you've struck gold, good sir!

Beautiful!

Works of art and many hours of labour. I wonder if the parts were made from a wax moulding? The detail makes me think of that method.
If so? it would mean a one off casting and if others need to be made they use the first as an impression.

Ok guys here goes a few pictures. About the best I could do with my camera and downsizing. I need to find out how some of you get such good closeup shots. Some of these may be a little better than the first ones and some not. Thanks for all the comments and if any of you are ever in the Dayton, Ohio area, let me know for the German beer is always cold and the Bourbon always warm. James First picture is front face again.

I've never seen anything like this. All this ornamentation ... pure insanity.

Makes one wonder why he is wasting his time collecting mere daggers and bayonets.

Congratulations.

Why do you insist upon drinking that cold beer, I thought everybody knew that real beer is supposed to be warm Big Grin, I don't suppose I'll ever understand you guys.

By the way the dagger aint half bad is it.
Thanks for showing such a wonderful hirschfnger.
