Tristan, Sorry I can't add anything more informational,,,however, I do really like your Bayern-style lionhead degen.
Ritterkreuz, Looking forward to your additional postings.

I like the blackened Cavalry Degen! Can't make out the Regimental inscription on the blade - can you post another image please?

With the others for the most part ID'd the three posted by greme gt look like a pair of KD 89 cavalry dress swords, and what is most likely a mounted artillery dress saber. With Ritterkreuz posting a unit marked Prussian Model 1864 short sword. A pair of IOD 89s, an Army issue KD 89, and what appears to be an earlier manufactured cavalry officers saber. With the last two being the Prussian model 1856 n/A artillery saber. With the wood gripped example a Weimar era reissue of the sword as a cavalry sword with a 1920 date, and the other still in its WW I era configuration. My compliments to all for a very nice grouping of swords . FP

Nice Hannoverian Ulan. I have always wondered what process was involved in staining the backgrounds.

The M89 still remains one of my favorites enclosed are pictures of a recent pickup. I especially like the military acceptance cipher on the blade spine. And the WRII cipher on the Prussian Eagle cross guard.

And the WRII cipher on the Prussian Eagle cross guard. Dow, That looks like a nice one. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the German Army issue officer's model swords myself as items that were in continuous military use and dateable. And (at least in my experience) harder to find than most of the private purchase types. Best regards, Fred

Here is a Damascus bladed IOD89 with a very nice dedication to a Hauptmann von Stockhausen leaving the Regiment (IR 13).

I've been looking for a Wurttemberg IOD89 for a while and this nice example turned up, complete with corect red/black portepee. The detail on the Royal crest is superb and the blade is exceptionally clean, marked WK&C. There is also an engraved FB (or could be FvB) on the top of the cap. Notice the portepee has a white leather backing, similar to the Bavarian red leather backing.

A very nice Wurttemberg IOD Tristan! The Portepee is almost certainly as scarce as the sword in my experience. I really like personalized initials on swords and that is a nice bonus.
Thanks for showing.

Thx, Orpo...yes, a very rare knot. It is tied through the finger loop so maybe has been there for years!

Thank you. As well as initials on the tang button the other thing I like is a coat of arms. This other IOD has such a device which seems to be a knight's helmet with wings on top of a shield with a couple of Maltese crosses on it. The name 'C. Ambrosius' is aso engraved on the reverse folding guard. Any ideas????

Managed to pick up a pair of hangers which fit nicely with my Bavarian IOD89. The short hanger is leather and the longer one is bullion with red leather backing. A very similar set up appears in Johnson's book on Imperial Army Swords on p. 153.
