Many of these CW swords were cut down for use in WW2. With the ;ate war 1865 date is was probabaly surplus anyway. Sometimes you will even see engraved ones cut down. They did the same thing with WWI US Patton sabers. There was a "knife shortage" at the onset of war, so you see a lot of this kind of thing along with all kinds of hand made knives being made for the soldiers & Sailors. A shame, but a historical piece and fairly rare (who would want to 'fake' one!)
