Anyone is an expert on UK navy blades? There were so many version of those...
Would like to hear any comments on this one - 58.5cm long overall with a 44.5cm long blade with etched decoration including an anchor and the royal cypher of King Edward VII dating this dirk to 1902 � 1910 Signed on the ricasso �J. Gieves & Sons, Portsmouth� Shagreen rayskin grip with brass wire binding Lions head pommel with ring in mouth The top brass section on scabbardis engraved with the owners initials �E.C.D�?

Hi Mike,
I am no expert but I have one I believe is a little older than yours, late Victorian. They were all probably made in Shefield and have the name of the retailer engraved on the ricasso. Mine has the name Hobson & Sons on it.

Here is mine by Maker, J.R. Gaunt and Son, Limited, Late Edward Thurkle, London & Birmingham. Looks like the Kings crown. I have an earlier Scottish Dirk by Thurkle.
