Sir Richard,

Although I've never seen one quite like this,
my feeling is that you have an original presentation gift here. Wherever did you find this beauty?

From what I can see and make out it translates something like this:

"The full iron goblet ...
iron heroes of the 'iron-time' ...
'War Goblet'

A friendly remembrance
the Piessen(?) Btn. ??
the twenty-one officers of the 3rd Btn."

The silver-marking looks like a bear from here,
possibly a Berliner Bär? I've not seen one similar to this example, but, there are a few different bear-mark logos seen on German, silver items.

The case is very nice too, it has all the proper earmarks for being 100% correct and original.

I'm pleased to see that you gents are still turning up rare and wonderful treasures like this. Many thanks for showing it to us. Smile

Kind regards!

Bill

quote:

A friendly remembrance
the loved (dem lieben) I can't read that either
the twenty-one officers of the 3rd Btn."

Awesome piece.

Thanks,
Wolfgang

The paper card reads :' Zur freundlichen Erinnerung dem lieben Battalion Kommandant , die (not 21 , but a 'U') Unter-Offiziere des Battalion 3 .'
Translation :' For the friendly' --or better:
' In fond remembrance to the dear Battalion Commander from the NCO's of the 3rd Battalion '.
Regards Bernd

Sorry about the delay in answearing but busy with work. This item was for sale on ebay and sold for just over $200 US. I missed the closing so some other lucky collector won this item. Thanks for all the info and now I know what to look for in a real item.

Richard
