1939 certainly is an important year in our modern western history!

It was on September 1st 1939 that WWII officially began with the German attack on Poland.

In our hobby it also was a turning point: from that date we see an almost generalised application of "erzatz" or replacement material for the production of German ceremonial daggers. Materials became scarcer due to the increased war effort: the priority for the use of materials like steel became the production of fighting weapons like guns, tanks,...etc.

Dispite this fact, 1939 has brought us plenty of HJ's: many are marked with that year of production.
