Hi,
this is for you, the textbook guys. shocked

Collecting ideas for a new dagger book we are looking for period photos which are a little bit special.
Everything which is uncommon catches our interest, so if you have something to add to a book about German military edged weapons from 1800 til 1990, send them on, please. Full credit will be given.

Thanks for looking and thanks for any support in advance.

Best;
Hermann

OK Hermann, that is an interesting pic. Why is this Heer NCO wearing a Luftwaffe Officers dagger?? Maybe they pulled him fron a Luftwaffe unit to fill shortages in a Heer unit?? Kevin.

Kevin,
I've no clue, maybe something like that. You will not believe what happened during the period, we have so interesting photos: Waffen-SS officer with Heer hanging strap and no chain to his dagger but a Portepe, Kriegsmarine with Luftwaffe Portepe, Panzer NCO with Kriegsmarine dagger etc.

Why we are posting this Appetizer? Simply to point out that not everything that is genuine one will find in a book.

It`s all in the details... ;-)

Best;
Hermann

These mismatches sometimes have simple reasons. E.g. I am aware of an army officer wearing a govs dagger. You never would know the reason if there would not be another pic in which the same man wears his gov uniform and the same dagger. He simply did avoid to buy a second (army) dagger for his army uniform and did choose to wear his gov dagger also with the army uniform.

I do like those unusual "wearing" pics. Have seen a lot of them, the above mentioned SSwith army hangers, DLV with SAdagger, RADleader with army hangers, army officer with luft hangers, gov with army dagger, TN with army dagger, gov with RRPP dagger (!) and so on.

Wotan,
definetely. There is no miracle around those mismatches. However we think it could be a nice idea to show them as a kind of opposite together with the textbook pieces.
Just an idea.

Thanks for jumping in.

What a great topic.
The more I learn about German daggers the more I realize how many things are NOT textbook. Here's an example purchased from the Vet's family last month. Two Portepees. Yup two. I talked to a senior dealer a bit ago and he told me he's seen this a few times and these were worn buy guys with dual service. Anyways, he told me they always remove one cause collectors like 'em "textbook".
