If it were mine I would leave the knot in place. It is correct for an senior NCO degen . I think the knot you seek is a bayo knot, see attached.

I'm learning :
it's a Dachau-produced NCO subordinate degen ?

The knot is OK and seems to belong to the sword. No, it's not Dachau made Degen. Just a "regular" unmarked one made somwhere in Solingen.

Not Dachau made. The knot is right for this type sword, and appears original to this particular one.

J. Harvey is correct. Not a Dachau degen, but a real one. The knot on it is perfectly correct, worn by officers and senior NCO's.

If it were mine I would leave the knot in place. It is correct for an senior NCO degen . I think the knot you seek is a bayo knot, see attached. As period pics proof, this certain knot shown in the pic (of Barry brown) was also worn -at least- on sabers. Itīs the same with the officerīs portepee (shown on the degen) which (seldom, but it was) was worn on bayonets. As members stated before, the officerīs knot is totally right for this kind of degen shown here. Regards,
