If it were mine I would leave the knot in place. It is correct for an senior NCO degen . I think the knot you seek is a bayo knot, see attached.

The knot is OK and seems to belong to the sword.
No, it's not Dachau made Degen. Just a "regular" unmarked one made somwhere in Solingen.

Not Dachau made. The knot is right for this type sword, and appears original to this particular one.

J. Harvey is correct. Not a Dachau degen, but a real one. The knot on it is perfectly correct, worn by officers and senior NCO's.

As period pics proof, this certain knot shown in the pic (of Barry brown) was also worn -at least- on sabers. It´s the same with the officer´s portepee (shown on the degen) which (seldom, but it was) was worn on bayonets.

As members stated before, the officer´s knot is totally right for this kind of degen shown here.
