Indeed, such degens were also worn by SSmembers as period pics do proof. Unfortunately you will never know for sure when these runes emblem has been added (engraved, etched?). Perhaps period, perhaps only some years ago, who knows? Regards,

Very crude looking SS runes. Certainly not Eickhorn factory quality. I would say they were added recently in an attempt to turn a common slow selling Army sword into something else.

Gentlemen, Both of you bring up excellent points ... certainly there are many early, original examples in collections out there, have no doubt. Some may be crude when compared to factory models, but then again I say, why not stick with the 100% original, factory version? These things can get expensive. I believe that it's always better to purchase something that's widely accepted than buy something that might be construed as "iffy..?" Most times it's just plain better to play safe. Hans "Franz" - nice early sword, but be advised and be careful. If you can get it for the price of an ordinary sword, then maybe something interesting? However, if more expensive then excercise extreme caution. Best! Willi

I am going to have to agree with the above. Not the first "conversion" of an EM saber to a higher price sword, I've even seen other type "conversions" done to Imperial era swords. Fred
