hi all...many years ago i've received from a friend this sword with a not sharpened blade and a metal scabbard. what do you think it is...? the blade presents some etched floral designs and a crown on both sides. near the hilt there's the maker mark(hill's brothers london) and in the opposite below the ethcings presents the motto"dieu et mon droit" In the handle there's the crown and 2 letters (VR?). the grip seems to be shark skin or something similar. the length of the whole sword is 100 cm do you think may be a reproduction or may have some value?? thanks a lot

VR would be Victoria Regina. or Queen Victoria. Everything looks correct to me. I am not so much up on British swords that I can tell you which this is. Infantry, Artillery etc. It looks correct to me

It's a Victorian era Infantry Officer's sword, with a post 1845 version of the 1822 pattern hilt. Combined with an 1891/92 blade (1892 being the official date) it was designed for thrusting not slashing, with another style hilt being adopted in 1895. With the scabbard most likely from another sword as it seems to be curved, while the blade should be straight. FP
