Was hoping to learn something about this pin if possible.
Looking up ulmer on Google translate didn't give much help.

My bad photography didn't capture remnants of scales on Germania's malware or nice detailng on her belt and sheild.

Also, I was curious if 'Deschler' was the same maker of golden party badges during Hitler's reich (Deschler & Sohn).

Thought the 1889 date was cool too.

Thanks in advance.

Translated the name is "1. (first) athletic club GERMANIA at (city of) Ulm" so derjager is quite right.

Dean,

Some of these heavy 'slab-medals' are quite lovely, case in point, yours ...

Most are to mark "civilian-events," of one kind or another, and are of exceptional quality and value. For me much better value than your average 'tinnie,' the subject-matter and age of these is/are incomparable for the dollar.

I have only one handy that's photographed, I'll pop some up ...

They seem to be be of a higher-grade alloy of some kind, possibly having some small silver content ..?

More than a few can be found having having original "makers-tags" on them, too, which is very cool, really ... they're normally sharp, metallic, die-struck labels, sexy.

Most that I've seen have 'state or club-themed,' colored string in those holes. Finding the string in good shape is always an added bonus! Most of them are just so many frazzled bits, something the cats chewed on ...

Nice post ... wink

Best!

Bill
