I'm new here. I've been a collector off and on for 30 years. Just got this SS Honor Ring. I'm not an expert on SS items, especially these rings. The inside says "S.lb. Hahn 21.6.44 H Himmler" I plan on having Don Boyle authenticate it so I can sell it. Here are some images;

So the ring, it looks good to me. I've contacted Don and waiting to hear back... perhaps he can do a COA but he asks a lot to do that.

I teach radio production and performance and one of my students mentioned he had a "nazi ring with a skull on it". It peaked my interest and asked him to bring it in but he never did. Weeks go by and he contacted me via email and reminded me of the ring and said he wanted to sell it. I asked him to text me a few photos so I could do some research first. Things looked good except for the story I was getting. I was told his grandfather was in the war, and gave it to him. He said his grandfather got it off a dead German (shocker) in Africa. Suspiciously, I asked if he was sure about that because there were no SS in Africa (except the SD in Tunis), so who knows.

I showed the same images I first got from the seller to Craig Gotlieb and he said;

Photos are bad, but the ring appears to be original. Here is some information on your ring:

1) Where the veteran got it is of no concern to the value.
2) 1944 dates are not uncommon.

I would be interested, but the ring market has all but collapsed. I still have a few rings on my website that I cannot move without losing money. Reason for the collapse: not only the economy, but rings experienced a "bubble" of sorts and increased in price, over the past 10 years, by about 1000%. Also, the prevalence of fakes in the past few years has shaken market confidence.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Matt

Matt, I have no experience or knowledge on these 'upper class' rings, I only own replicas.

But I will say good luck!, and I only dream of encountering an offer likes yours!, it pays to share your interest incase friends or contacts have hidden treasures.

All the best, the guys here will give you all the help you need along with Don and Craig.

Hi I purchased an "investment grade" ring from Craig 2 years ago for $10,995.00 and added a $3000 SS ring box for a total investment of $13,995.00....I purchased Craig's SS ring book at the time of purchase as well...I was forced to sell the ring due to personal issues.Craig was advocating that rings were a terrific investment and his book supported this...less than 4 months after buying the ring from Craig he re-purchased for $6000!!!!!!!! I lost $8000 in 4 months on what was touted as being a great investment.....be careful cautious and always get a second and third opinion or offer...DO NOT SELL CHEAP!!!!!! cheers, Ryan

Ryan:

I hear you.

It's like buying a car.. if you sell it back shortly after buying, you lose your shirt. If you wait 40 years for it to become a 'classic', you may do well.

I have done the same as you on some items, and I just shake my head and try to move on.

But, getting back to the ring, I think that Don Boyle is the go-to-guy on getting this authenticated and, perhaps, appraised.

so consensus is to have Don look at it and I will... I've already been in touch with Don.

I was doing some research on the recipient. I wonder if this IS the "Hahn" the ring is named to. If so, he was one evil bastard. Hahn is a common surname though.

car wasn't purcahsed for "investment potential" it was purchased to drive. Ring touted as being a solid investment...4 months later it turned out to be not a very good investment...I was not looking to make money or even to break even but I was not prepared for the ____ kicking that I took...cheers P.S love the car...Saab 9 3 Turbo special sports addition Aero Sedan

Sounds good. Just trying to find a little humor in it. Sorry, didn't mean it to sound sarcastic.

The Honor ring market right now is bad period.. Just like everything else.Anyone selling now won't get what they've been told they'd get a few years ago.
Main problem is the price had gotten way over inflated some years ago ,,stagnated a couple years, ,then the market tanked..

Sure from the photos the ring looks o.k. But so does a good copy thats been aged.
The ring IF good is worth several thousand,,a few hundred for a CoA from Don isn't much when compared... Follow Dons instructions for sending and you won't have a problem..
Good luck,,let us know his findings..

Thanks Gaspare. If it turns out to be a copy (I don't think it will) then it will still be worth more than what I paid. smile

I understand because it's easy to miss a few. I guess I'm a sleep as well, because I'm always missing threads myself these days. I guess it was easier for me to keep up with posts before the upgrade.

WOW a copy...I would say if Don says it's a copy..then it's a copy...to bad, you say you did not pay much for it so maybe you did not get hurt to bad. Who else might you try to ask, for a second opinion? Let us know what else you hear..take care

One of the better copy's if most on here were positive about the images alone.

If it turns out fake and you want a reasonable sale pm me, I could do with another daily wearer.

Well, significant money was not paid for it, and as long as it never gets sold as an original, then no big deal right?

I spent very little for it from someone who believed it was real. i took a chance. . I don't have much money which is why I was reluctant to get a DB COA, (250 is a lot of money to me right now) but... it had to be done, for the sake of the collecting community.

the ring is pending sale AS A COPY! As far as I'm concerned, my posting of this ring makes it well documented and will never be sold as original. i was hoping it was original because it would helped me a lot financially had it been authentic.

This post to be slanderous and untrue. If memory serves, Mr. Sellick sold the ring and box in a divorce-induced panic to another dealer after I declined to buy it back. Fire sales NEVER make for a good investment return.
