This scabbard purportedly a 1st model belonging to a dagger with no maker. can anyone idebtify this as

A. a genuine scabbard

B. any thoughts on maker.

Although not very well informed on naval daggers I have some doubt due to the poor detail of the scabbard bands with straight edges and no throat screws.

Any opinions gratefully received.

Thanks!

I think it's a scabbard of a 2nd model navy and not from a 1st model. I have one navy dagger in my collection with a similar scabbard. It's a distributor marked piece from A. Braun. The only difference with your scabbard is that mine has two throat screws. You can find some pictures here:

It is in the second and third picture of the second post in this thread.
When I find some time I will take some separate pictures of the A. Braun dagger.

I agree with Danny, it's a 2nd modell scabbard. In my opinion by Hller.

Thanks Danny,

Yes they do look very similar. Your screws are flush fitted then? I ask as I can`t actually see any.
I think Braun was a distributor. Damn nice collection of naval daggers you have there!

Cheers Tom & Oleg, all input appreciated!

Yes, they are flush fitted. You are also correct about Braun. This was a distributor that is known to purchase parts from Alcoso. Interesting though is that the scabbard does not have the typical Alcoso features.

Oleg, the scabbard bands look like Hller but the scabbard rings are different from Hller. I haven't found an explanation for that yet. Because no other maker that I know of used similar rings.

Here's a picture of my Hller navy for comparison.

Danny, an amazing dagger you have here. Hller used similar rings with a lightning type scabbards. Maybe you have here other variant of one Hller`s scabbard?
Best, Oleg.

Hi,

no scabbard screws makes things very difficult. I've seen just a few from Imperial time and also very few from early Weimar period. Coming along with TR dagger would cause some problems to me, maybe that's just me.
