Just bought this sword on my last hotel buy along with a Japanese samurai sword. Bought from the veterans son, who stated that both swords had been together for years.Scabbard is leather. Blade measures 20 inches. No markings on the whole sword that I can find. Anyone have an idea of what type of sword that this is, and the value?? Thanks in advance, Bob

The grip, crossguard, and size is remarkably similar to the Napoleonic Artillery short sword. But this crossguard does not have the three metal prongs protruding from it.
I do not know about the shape of the point of the blade.

It is a Masonic or theatrical item... While it resembles an artillery short sword circa 19th century (many of which were patterned on the Roman Gladius) Masonic/Fraternal or theatrical item works for me. Fred

Guys, Thanks for the info. It appears to be too well made for a theater type of sword.

The only place I have seen a similar blade is on a masonic short sword.
We have members who know Masonic items. Perhpas they could spread some additional light on this piece.

Yep, a US made theatrical or fraternal sword. One will find these shown in period Ames Sword Co. catalogs.

Here is a similar blade made in Ohio. I understand this is fraternal. The blade is 17.5". The grip is as well made as any military piece. They do not bring much money. I know I paid well under $100 for this and it came with a shoulder strap.
I suspect theatrical is worth less.
