I'd like to show you some pictures of my early KLAAS 2nd Luftwaffe dagger.
It has some interesting features. Hope you like it.

The string inside the pommel and the small leather ring at the end of the grip inside the ferrule is interesting.
And look at the end of the scabbard. It is certainly different than the "normal" scabbards.
On the last photo you can see a "normal" scabbard on the left and the early KLAAS scabbard on the right.
I have never noticed this kind of difference before.
Is this feature common on early 2nd Lufts?

Janos fantastic early 2nd model. The hand detail is amazing and really like the variation tip on the scabbard certainly a piece I would be proud to have in my collection.

That is a real beauty Janos with super hand detailing.
Some daggers just set themselves apart from the masses and this is
one of them.

Now THAT is a Luft! Very nice find Janos, the detail and fittings scream early. The scabbard tip is very unique indeed and a first for me! Interesting thing is,I believe there to be an earlier Klaas Luft veriety, and the couple examples of it I have seen did NOT have this scabbard tip! The variations will truely never stop! Congrats... Gents,
I had to refresh this old tread, because I have found another 2nd model Luftwaffe dagger which has the same unique scabbard tip like mine.
(Please re-read previous posts.)
It took more than a half year to find another one, but finally it is here.
Paul, the Lakesidetrader has a PACK dagger on his site now for sale, and take a look at the scabbard tip: it has the same odd design, like my KLAAS dagger.

Here is the link: https://www.lakesidetrader.com/item.php?ID=9022

Does anybody have a Luftwaffe dagger in his/her collection with the same characteristic?

Janos:

I have over 90 Luft2s in my collection from all kinds of makers and from all periods of production, but not one with this kind of 2 ridge scabbard... all of mine have the 3 ridge scabbard.

Based on Paul's Pack dagger, the scabbard variation seems to be mid or late period...

Thanks my friend for sharing. A couple things, you will notice the bands are similar. The tip on these are brass. We also know that Klaas and Pack did share some parts so it makes total sense to me that they would have similar scabbards.
Who knows why these share the same odd tip, perhaps some sort of failed experiment or perhaps, (and more likely) they ran out of steel tips and turned up a bunch out of brass to make up this order.
Regardless, always makes for interesting conversation with good wine and dear friends!

Those scabbard bands are certainly Pack. Interesting also the scabbard rings look to be brass on both examples. I have two early pack 2nd models will have to dig them out of lock up and take a look.
