Great information Pesho - is there an available book that lists information like you quoted ? I've been doing some researh on some Russian medals but have been stimied by a lack of unit information over here in the US. ALso does the sword look original to you ? I've seen several similar swords but none have had a damescene blade. Finally, can you place an approximate value on the sword ?

I’m not specialist of Russian’s edge weapon, but I don’t like this sword.
Many red flags: missing master’s mark, poor steel-engraving, not gold gilding etc.
Just for comparison one original sword and I believe it’s very interesting story.

“The firm "Schaff and Sons", St. Petersburg, 1909-1917 gg. Steel, copper alloy, wood, leather, enamel. Forging, stamping, assembling, etching, engraving, polishing, gilding, enamelling. The total length of 905 mm in a sheath. Length without sheath 900 mm. Blade length 767 mm. Blade Width 33.5 mm. On the heel of the blade stamp of the firm "SHAF SONS St. Petersburg." On Garde brand firm "SHAF Sya SPB" Like AN Kulinsky number 231. This sword is a very rare example of the officers of arms, made famous by the St. Petersburg Armory, served the Court and the Imperial Guard. With expert opinion Rossvyazokhrankultura certified expert on cultural values. Expert opinion is registered in Rossvyazokhrankultura. In 1996, this sword was presented by Alexander Vasilyevich Korzhakov, who was then at the head of the Presidential Security Service of Russia - the famous star of American pop music - Michael Jackson. But as in the Russian Federation has a law prohibiting the export of cultural property, dating back over 100 years, she was detained at the Russian customs and remained in Russia. Dragoon officer's saber, model 1881/1909 years. "Anna's arms" for valor. "
450 000-600 000 p. / 15 000-20 000 $”

I guess there are different degrees in quality and adornment on these [?]..
But with all the excellent copies out there I guess pedigree/provenance will come into play..

I'm sorry, but to me it looks to be a recently made sword. Casting pits, relatively unworn gold lettering, the overall quality of the workmanship. The things that pesho mentioned - etc. IMO it would not even pass for a standard period officer's sword - much less an Honor Sword. (I also don't care for the sword knot.) FP
